Kälberberg-Hochberg is one with Regulation of the Regional Council Tübingen been instructed from 1 February 1994 Nature Reserve with the number 4237.
location
The nature reserve is located in the natural areas of the Mittlere Kuppenalb and Mittlereflächealb . It lies between Dottingen and Münsingen and consists of three sub-areas: In the west lies the summit of the 752 m high Kälberberg , on the eastern edge rises the 756 m high Stürzel and in between is the 771 m high Hochberg . The semi -arid grassland of the area forms a biotope network with the semidrythic grasslands of the other nature reserves in the north of Münsingen: Höhnriß-Neuben , Seetalhalde-Galgenberg , Schopflochberg and Eckenlauh-Weißgerberberg . The area is part of FFH area No. 7523-311 Münsinger Alb and lies entirely in the Swabian Alb biosphere area .
Protection purpose
According to the regulation, the protection purpose is:
- the preservation of the mountain peaks typical of the Mittlerer Kuppenalb with semi-arid lawns, juniper heath, field trees, hedges and stone bars, forest areas and individual agricultural grassland and arable areas in between,
- the maintenance, care and improvement of large-scale, species-rich, semi-arid grasslands used as free pastures for sheep, with numerous rare and sometimes endangered plant and animal species,
- the protection and maintenance of the free mountain tops as well as the adjacent, small-structured and diverse peripheral areas as a habitat for a species-rich plant and animal community and as a retreat for numerous species, especially small animals, from the surrounding agricultural landscape,
- the maintenance of a spacious biotope network from the Trailfinger Gorge via the Schopflochberg, the Seetalhalde and the Galgenberg to other semi-arid grasslands in the north of Münsingen, up to and including Höhnriß in the west and Eckenlauh and Weißgerberberg in the east.
Flora and fauna
Flesh-colored orchid , which is highly endangered in Germany, grows in the area and there are populations of mountain grasshoppers , which are threatened with extinction in Germany.
