The Echazaue nature reserve is a near-natural meadow landscape on the Echaz river in the city of Pfullingen in the Reutlingen district .
history
The NABU Group in Pfullingen has been particularly active in the Echazaue area between Lichtenstein and Pfullingen since 1976 and has been buying land successively. The association was also able to achieve that this area was designated as a nature reserve in 2005. The NABU Group now looks after around 13 hectares of the approximately 50 hectares of NSG. For this commitment, NABU Pfullingen was awarded the Cultural Landscape Prize and the State Nature Conservation Prize.
Nature reserve
The nature reserve is located on the outskirts of the city of Pfullingen. The area is largely undeveloped and has a structurally rich biotope mosaic of grasslands , orchards with high trunks, wet areas, wooded fringes that accompany the stream, hedges, field trees and individual trees. In addition to a habitat for endangered species, it offers a bird sanctuary under the European Birds Directive a refuge for endangered species such as the collared flycatcher , gray-headed woodpecker , Middle Spotted Woodpecker , Red-backed Shrike and Peregrine Falcon .
The historical canal system of the "Wässerwiesen" located in the area is also to be preserved as a regional and cultural testimony.
