The Retarded Rats are a psychobilly band from Leipzig .
history
The band was formed in 2009 by Anna Killjoy, Mutant Ann and Invincible Vinc. The Rubber Room demo (s) were recorded in this line-up and released on CD in 2010. Two songs can also be heard on the sampler It Came from the Zone (2011). Invincible Vinc left the band while recording Lost in Space and Lost in Time and was replaced by Flatty Killjoy (The Holy Hack Jacks). The album was then re-recorded and released in 2013 via Suzy Q Records .
The first European tour followed, which took the Retarded Rats through England, France, Germany and the Netherlands. Furthermore, they played at many national and international festivals such as the Psychomania Rumble, Satanic Stomp, Psychobilly Meeting, Rat Rock Festival, Bedlam Breakout and Pompey Rumble.
In 2015 the Retarded Rats released the single Underground Is Dead on Killjoy Records. Further European tours and international concerts followed. Mutant Ann left the band and was replaced by Gordon Melmac (Degenerated). Flatty Killjoy and Gordon Melmac also changed the sound and added influences from 60s garage, post-punk, surf and trash.
In 2016 The Retarded Rats recorded their second LP Screams from the 10th Planet . This album was recorded live and analog on an 8-track tape machine and recorded and produced by Mighty Mischka and Flatty Killjoy.
The Canadian Kris The Kid (Raygun Cowboys) has been on the drums since 2017. With the I Hate Chocolate single , their fifth record will be released in 2017.
Killjoy Records
Founded in 2014 by Anna and Flatty Killjoy, the label specializes in cassettes and vinyl. The label is used to have full control over their own recordings, but is not used solely for in-band purposes. Anna and Flatty Killjoy have so far released over 20 records from the psychobilly, garage and surf sectors. Killjoy Records is one of the fastest growing new underground labels in terms of psychobilly.
