The Upfinger Ried nature reserve is a protected wet meadow . It is located in the district of Upfingen (municipality of St. Johann ) on the Swabian Alb in the Reutlingen district .
Characteristics
The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance of the Tübingen regional council of September 21, 1995 and has a size of 5.8 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 4.263. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 166033 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .
The area is extremely small and surrounded by intensively used agricultural land. To the west is the K6700 district road, which connects Sirchingen and Gächingen. The area of just 5.8 hectares is a wetland with the typical Großseggen-Ried, reed beds. It is one of the now rare wet meadows in a dry valley above the volcanic vent of the so-called Swabian volcano in the area of the Middle Kuppenalb. The area is looked after by the nature conservation authority of the Tübingen regional council .
Protection purpose
The protection purpose is according to the Protected Area Ordinance
- securing a reed meadow complex as a habitat for a species-rich, specialized flora and fauna and the marginal areas used as grassland as a buffer and transition zone to the surrounding agricultural landscape,
- the preservation, care and promotion of the Upfinger Ried as a breeding, feeding and resting biotope for endangered bird species, such as B. Whinchat and Quail,
- the preservation, care and promotion of the Upfinger Ried as a habitat for endangered butterfly and grasshopper species, such as B. Marguerite mother-of-pearl butterflies and marsh grasshoppers,
- Preservation and development of a refuge for the flora and fauna within the surrounding agricultural landscape,
- the preservation of the Riedwiesenkomplex as evidence of the landscape genesis, which makes the special geological situation in the Uracher-Kirchheim volcanic area visible.
