The Upfinger Ried nature reserve is a protected wet meadow . It is located in the district of Upfingen (municipality of St. Johann ) on the Swabian Alb in the Reutlingen district .

Characteristics

The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance of the Tübingen regional council of September 21, 1995 and has a size of 5.8 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 4.263. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 166033 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

The area is extremely small and surrounded by intensively used agricultural land. To the west is the K6700 district road, which connects Sirchingen and Gächingen. The area of ​​just 5.8 hectares is a wetland with the typical Großseggen-Ried, reed beds. It is one of the now rare wet meadows in a dry valley above the volcanic vent of the so-called Swabian volcano in the area of ​​the Middle Kuppenalb. The area is looked after by the nature conservation authority of the Tübingen regional council .

Protection purpose

The protection purpose is according to the Protected Area Ordinance

  • securing a reed meadow complex as a habitat for a species-rich, specialized flora and fauna and the marginal areas used as grassland as a buffer and transition zone to the surrounding agricultural landscape,
  • the preservation, care and promotion of the Upfinger Ried as a breeding, feeding and resting biotope for endangered bird species, such as B. Whinchat and Quail,
  • the preservation, care and promotion of the Upfinger Ried as a habitat for endangered butterfly and grasshopper species, such as B. Marguerite mother-of-pearl butterflies and marsh grasshoppers,
  • Preservation and development of a refuge for the flora and fauna within the surrounding agricultural landscape,
  • the preservation of the Riedwiesenkomplex as evidence of the landscape genesis, which makes the special geological situation in the Uracher-Kirchheim volcanic area visible.
