Warmberg is a nature reserve designated by the Tübingen Regional Council of December 20, 1994 with the number 4.250.
location
The nature reserve is located in the Mittlere Kuppenalb natural area . It is a hilltop just under two kilometers south of the Oberstetten district of the Hohenstein community . The protected area is part of FFH area No. 7621-341 areas around Trochtelfingen .
Protection purpose
According to the regulation, the protective purpose is
- the preservation of a richly structured part of the landscape, characteristic of the Middle Kuppenalb, consisting of juniper heather, arable and meadow areas, hedges, field trees and parts of the forest,
- the preservation of the charming landscape typical of the Middle Kuppenalb with its great recreational value due to this biotope mosaic,
- the preservation, care and improvement of large, semi-arid lawns and poor hay meadows with their plant and animal species, some of which are endangered,
- the preservation of the sand pits in the area including the vegetation typical of the site as a cultural and historical testimony to the national culture,
- the maintenance of a biotope network between the juniper heather areas on Warmberg and the neighboring heath areas to the west.
Flora and fauna
Around 300 plant species have been identified in the area, with the areas of the juniper heather showing the greatest biodiversity. The highly endangered species common cats paw and alpine pippau deserve special mention . 46 bird species were found on the Warmberg, of which two species are on the list of the most endangered breeding birds in Baden-Württemberg: the tree pipit and the red linnet . 59 butterfly species have been registered in the area so far. These include the blue white dagger, which is threatened with extinction in Germany, as well as the endangered blue blue ant .
