The Böttental is a nature reserve in the Baden-Württemberg community of Mehrstetten in the Reutlingen district.
Characteristics
The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance of the Tübingen regional council of February 4, 1998 and has a size of 44.8 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 4.283. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 318223 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .
location
The nature reserve is a dry valley and is located around 1,200 meters north of the village of Mehrstetten. In the south-east it borders on the 16 hectare landscape protection area No. 4.15.100 summer sheep pasture in the Upper and Lower Böttental and Vorderen Berg , at the same time it is part of the 3,304 hectare FFH area No. 7623-341 Tiefental and Schmiechtal . The NSG Böttental is located in the natural area 095 - Middle surface Alb within the natural spatial main unit 09 - Swabian Alb .
Protection purpose
The Protected Area Ordinance describes the protection purpose as follows:
- the maintenance, care and improvement of a dry valley characteristic of the Middle Alb with its south-facing juniper heather, the meadows in the valley floor and on the northern slope including hedges, bushes, individual trees, groups of trees and the directly adjacent forest areas;
- the preservation, maintenance and improvement of this biotope mosaic and in particular the semi-arid grassland as a habitat for numerous endangered plant and animal species;
- the maintenance and improvement of a biotope network of the semi-arid grasslands lying individually in the area;
- the preservation of the landscape-defining beauty and uniqueness of the area due to the richly structured biotope mosaic, in particular keeping open the open spaces;
- the safeguarding and improvement of a large-scale biotope network of juniper heaths.
