Evangelical Church in Mehrstetten

Protestant church

The Georgskirche is a late Gothic choir tower from the 15th century, the nave was expanded again in 1577 and 1828. In 1933 two colored glass windows were installed: a round window by Ernst H. Graeser , which was removed again around 1971 (remains are preserved), and the choir window by Walter Kohler with the motif of the risen Christ with a cross nimbus .

Local museum

Extraordinary pieces about the village life on the Alb plateau in the 19th century have been collected by the members of the voluntary museum in the former farrenstall in Mehrstetten. The local history museum was opened in 1991.

During a tour you will come across a kitchen with the old wood stove and butter churn and the living room, where shoes and laundry hang to dry over the stove. In the bedroom there is a four-poster bed with an accompanying cupboard. The unique collection of more than 200 old linen sacks is interesting. In former times these belonged to the most valuable possessions of the people. They were given names and often numbered. Even changes of ownership after inheritance can still be seen on the linen, old names have been deleted and new ones written underneath. A hand-operated bag knocking machine is also shown.

There are show and craft days where there is a lot to experience. The old forge is put into operation just like an old transmission or a 400 year old loom. From May to October, the museum is open every first Sunday of the month from 1.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
