Wendelstein is a nature reserve (NSG number 4.111) designated by ordinance of the Tübingen regional council of September 5, 1983 in the area of ​​the municipality of Eningen under Achalm in the Reutlingen district of Baden-Württemberg .

location

The 9.7 hectare nature reserve is a narrow, largely south-facing meadow and shrubbery area and is located on the southern slope of the Gutenberg, northeast of Eningen. The old Eninger Albaufstieg, the "Alte Steige", cuts through the area. It lies at the transition of the natural areas 101- Middle Alb foreland and 094- Middle Kuppenalb and thus also on the border of two main natural areas (09- Swabian Alb and 10- Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land ).

Protection purpose

The purpose of protection is the preservation of the valuable semi-arid grassland and steppe heather biotopes with their abundance of rare, partly endangered and endangered animal and plant species, especially orchids. 184 plant species were identified, including 12 orchid species (some of them endangered nationwide) and three gentian species. 16 plant species are listed as endangered on the Red List, 19 species are protected. The location is remarkable for its rich population of spring pasque flowers .
