The Nägelesfelsen is a nature reserve in the area of the city of Bad Urach in the district of Reutlingen, designated by the then Württemberg Ministry of Culture on August 23, 1937 .
location
The Nägelesfelsen nature reserve is located north of the town of Bad Urach on a south-west facing slope above the Ermstal , which is formed by the Oxford layers . The area belongs to the Middle Kuppenalb natural area .
Landscape character
The character of the area is essentially shaped by the almost vertical rock walls and rock towers. There are rubble heaps below. The rock walls are almost completely bare, the flatter areas are covered with dry oak and beech forests. There are also real steppe heather stocks in the area.
history
The area was designated as a protected forest as early as 1924 . In 1937 it was placed under nature protection by an ordinance signed by the then Württemberg Minister of Culture, Christian Mergenthaler .
Flora and fauna
The specially protected whiteclove , which is also called rock nails and which gave the rock its name, thrives in the area . Other notable species are Scattered Fork-toothed Moss , Brown-Red Stendelwurz and Panicle Saxifrage .
