Location of the local community Eßlingen in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm
Eßlingen is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It has been part of the Bitburger Land community since July 1, 2014 .
geography
The community is located on the Bitburg plateau in the south-west Eifel , about 10 km south of the center of the district town of Bitburg . The district of Badenborn, also called Hof Badenborn - an independent municipality until 1969 - is located south of the main town on the county road to Meckel . The federal highway 51 (Trier – Bitburg) runs east of the village in a north-south direction .
history
The Eifel town was first mentioned in a document in 909, when an "Eslingis" was named in an exchange contract with the St. Maximin Abbey . As "Enselingen" the village comprised three fireplaces in 1473, five households in 1495 and seven fireplaces in 1531.
Before the French troops moved in at the end of the 18th century, Eßlingen belonged to the Bitburg provost in the Duchy of Luxembourg . When it was in the administrative area of the mayor of Meckel in 1850 , the place had 118 inhabitants in 14 residential buildings. The Hof Badenborn, located in the municipality, is one of the oldest estates of the Trier women's abbey in Oeren-St. Irminen .
On January 1, 1969, the previously independent community of Badenborn, which had 11 residents at the time, was incorporated into Esslingen.
The earlier spelling of the municipality of Esslingen was officially changed on December 31, 2006 in Eßlingen .

coat of arms
Blazon : "On a cross-cut shield in the upper half on a gold background (golden yellow) a black double-headed eagle, from the chest upwards, with red tongues, in the lower half a gold-decorated bull on a blue background, depicted in silver."
Justification of the coat of arms: The Maximiner double-headed eagle in the shield head indicates that it belongs to the Trier Abbey of St. Maximin , the bull's head in the shield base stands for the evangelist Lukas as the patron of the branch church. |
Culture and sights
The Catholic chapel of St. Barbara forms the center of Eßlingen, dates from the 16th century and was expanded around 1780. Today it is a branch church of the parish of Meckel.
