Kurzer Wasen-Roter Wasen is a nature reserve (NSG number 1230) in the municipality of Weilheim an der Teck in the Baden-Württemberg district of Esslingen , which was designated by the Stuttgart Regional Council on May 8, 1998 .

location

The nature reserve, consisting of two parts (Kurzer Wasen 6 ha, Roter Wasen 23 ha) and a total of 29.1 hectares, is located on the Albtrauf southeast of the town of Weilheim on the road towards Gruibingen at an altitude of 490 to 590 meters above sea level and is part of the natural space unit the "Lauter-Lindach-Randbucht" in the Middle Alb foreland . The two sub-areas are about one kilometer apart. These are typical juniper heaths on acidic ground.

Protection purpose

The purpose of protection is the preservation of the diverse valuable biotope structures as habitats for endangered animals and plants. The heathland play the greatest role here, but also richly structured forests, forest fringes and bushes. Preservation and development of the area is desirable for scientific, regional and cultural reasons as well as for its scenic diversity, uniqueness and beauty. The two wasens were used as sheep pasture for centuries.

You can find semi-dry lawns with some freshly changing areas as a habitat for heart leaf , mosquito-handelwurz , medicinal ziest , Purgier-flax , blue-green sedge , fringed gentian and German gentian. In gappy, emaciated areas, the low fat willow (red fescue low-fat willow ) and types of winged gorse bristle grass willow determine the species composition. These heather grass heaths in particular represent a strongly threatened plant community in low-lying areas and in the low mountain range, which is also of great importance for scientific reasons (plant sociology).
