The Kapfhalde is a Regulation on 9 May in 1983 by the Regional Council Tübingen been instructed Nature Reserve (NSG number 4104) in Baden-Wuerttemberg , in the north of the municipality Rangendingen (district offer Hausen ) of the Zollernalb district , south of the city of Rottenburg am Neckar (district Frommenhausen ) and in the west of the municipality of Hirrlingen in the Tübingen district .

location

The approximately 11.8 hectare (ha) large nature reserve Kapfhalde belongs to the natural area Obere Gäue and is part of the FFH area No. 7519-341 Neckar and side valleys near Rottenburg . It is located on a former impact slope on the right side of the Starzel with shell limestone rocks up to 90 m high . Dry and sun-exposed areas border on damp, wet or shady areas and thus enable a large number of species. On the slope there are 14 different plant communities in a small-scale mosaic with rock sections, dry grass , semi-dry grass , shrubs and dry slope forest as a habitat for a total of 350 plant species.

The area is located at an altitude of 420  m above sea level. NN . There is a touristic development to the east via the Hirrlingen natural history path, from there a circular hiking trail of the hiking trail network leads to the nature reserve. Another hiking trail leads through the Starzel valley between Bietenhausen and Frommenhausen.

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the preservation of the right hand slope of the Starzel with its diverse flora and fauna.

Flora and fauna

The Kapfhalde also offers a habitat for 44 resting and 68 breeding bird species. The nesting birds in the nature reserve include buzzard, kestrel, jackdaw , stock dove and wood pigeon, song thrush and mistletoe . Of around 400 species of butterflies observed in the protected area, 30 are on the red list of endangered species, including the dark-brown bluer , the blue ribbon , the wood-violet mother-of-pearl , the red-brown meadow bird , the bluebird , the sail butterfly , the pied butterfly, the swallowtail and the kidney spot . In addition, there are a large number of southern and eastern European snails. There are eleven species of flora worthy of protection, including the Turkish lily and six orchids. The elm floodplain forest there is also one of the rarer types of biotope.
