location
The nature reserve is located in the Hohe Schwabenalb natural area and lies in the north of Tailfingen in the lower part of the slope zone of the 975 m high Hochberg , also known as the castle . It is part of the FFH area No. 7719-341 areas around Albstadt as well as the bird sanctuary No. 7820-441 Südwestalb and Upper Danube Valley . It is completely surrounded by conservation area no. 4.17.001 Albstadt- Bitz .
Protection purpose
According to the ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation, maintenance and improvement of a diversely structured part of the landscape with the associated extensive agricultural and forestry use as a habitat for endangered and protected plant and animal species as well as a cultural and historical relic. Are of particular ecological importance here
- the grasslands,
- the wet areas,
- the single trees and groups of trees,
- the hedges,
- the fringing companies,
- the coniferous forest with the attached ground vegetation,
- the natural beech forest.
Due to the extraordinarily large variety of interlinked and interlinked biotope structures, the area in its entirety represents an important habitat for small animals and plants. In particular, it contains rare butterfly, beetle, spider and orchid species.
Flora and fauna
The biodiversity of the protected area can be seen in the 131 plant and 219 animal species found here so far. Conspicuous flowering plants include a. Orchids and gentians. Particularly noteworthy here is the creeping net leaf orchid species . The Saat-Esparsette occurs in large stocks in the area. The caterpillar of the endangered blue dagger feeds exclusively on this plant. The endangered species of plantain, piebald and whitefish are also found in the area .
