Protection purpose

According to the ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation, improvement and care of a diversely structured area as a habitat for endangered, endangered and protected animal and plant species, as well as a culturally and historically significant landscape element. Of particular ecological importance here are:

  • the bodies of water with the vegetation attached to them
  • the reed stocks
  • the riparian wood
  • the slate walls
  • the tall herbaceous vegetation of moist and dry expression
  • the extensively used hay meadows
  • the fallow meadows
  • the bushes, woods, groups of trees and individual trees
  • the near-natural forest areas
  • the orchards.

Due to the extraordinary variety of interlinked and interlinked biotope structures, the area as a whole represents an important habitat for animal and plant species bound to still waters, extensively used open land, fallow stages and near-natural forest stands. In particular, it features rare amphibians, birds and wild bees - and dragonfly species.

Flora and fauna

Adder's tongue and Färber's notch thrive in the protected area . The two ponds provide habitat for crested newts and yellow-bellied toads . The endangered water rail breeds in the area and, among the dragonfly species, the glossy rush damsel should be highlighted. The endangered brown-scaly sand bee lives in the slate walls on the bank of the pond .
