Protection purpose

According to the Protected Areas Ordinance, the protection purpose reads as follows: "The main protection purpose is the preservation, maintenance and improvement of a diversely structured part of the landscape with the associated extensive agricultural and forestry use as a habitat for endangered, endangered and protected animal and plant species as well as cultural and historical Relic. [...] Due to the extraordinary variety of interlinked and interlinked biotope structures, the area in its entirety represents an important habitat for animal and plant species bound to flowing waters, extensively used open land and near-natural forest stands. [...] "

Landscape character

The character of the protected area is determined by the valley of the Schwarzenbach. The stream flows in a very natural course and is accompanied by a narrow border of remains of alluvial forest. The valley, which is partially open in the east, is characterized by rough meadows and sedges. In some places, however, spruce afforestation extends to the shore. In the western part, the valley is densely forested and cut deep into the pending sandstone keuper.

Flora and fauna

In the Schwarzenbach nature reserve, more than 290 plant species have been identified in 16 types of vegetation. These include the common centaury , the white forest bird , Müller's stendelwort , the mosquito handelwort , the globe flower and the Turk's cap lily .

Among the animal species, the species bullhead , river mussel and stone crab , which are strictly protected according to the Habitats Directive , should be mentioned. Brown trout and minnow also occur in the Schwarzenbach.
