Zimmer unter der Burg is a municipality in the Zollernalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ). The municipal area belongs to the Upper Schischemtal recreation area.

Place name

The place was mentioned as Zimbern (timbered building) around 1275. Later also broken rooms or Brochen rooms and rooms in the Löchlin. Since around 1600 mainly rooms "under the castle".

Today's coat of arms of Zimmer under the castle: shield divided with three central ascending points of silver (white) and red.

Around 1930 the municipality added a naturalistic representation of a castle standing on a high rock in a shield-shaped frame to its official seal. Although the Stuttgart Archives Directorate suggested colors for this coat of arms on November 27, 1933, it was not awarded. After the Second World War, the community took over the family coat of arms of the extinct Counts of Sulz , under whose rule it had been in the Middle Ages. The coat of arms was awarded on June 8, 1949 by the Württemberg-Hohenzollern Ministry of the Interior and the flag on March 29, 1982 by the District Office.

Geographical location

Zimmer unter der Burg is located in the foothills of the Alb on the western border of the Zollernalb district and borders to the west on the neighboring district of Rottweil .

Zimmer is somewhat hidden in a valley on the western edge of the Swabian Alb and belongs to the spatial and recreational area of ​​the Upper Schischem valley .

The Schwarzenbach flows through rooms under the castle . This flows further west into the Schischem , a tributary of the Neckar .

Community structure

The village ofzimmer under the castle and the farmstead Aspenhof belong to the community ofzimmer under the castle.

The built-up area is almost in the middle of the marking, where Schwarzenbach, Schwaigholzbach, Wiesentälesbach and Seltergraben meet.

The district comprises a total of 505 ha, of which 36 ha are in the built-up area, 147 ha in communal and private forest and 310 ha in field land. Due to the topography of the district and the soil properties, only approx. 70 ha used as arable land, whereby the marking does not show any connected arable land.

Zimmer under the castle was first mentioned in a document in 1297. At that time, Count Hermann von Sulz sold several goods in rooms and Gößlingen to citizens of Rottweiler. The place was first mentioned as Zimbern, later also as Broken Zimmer (1314) or Brochenzimmer (1318–1334), as Zimmer im Löchlin (1438) and since about 1600 as a room under the castle.

There is evidence that the Lords of Sinkingen have owned the local manor since 1349 . Then in 1524 the goods in the rooms came to the Lords of Ehingen . The lords of Waldburg-Zeil acquired the manor through marriage at the end of the 18th century , which was sold to the community in 1833.

In the course of the Napoleonic era, Zimmer under the castle became part of Württemberg in 1805.

With the purchase of the manor (around 1818) from Prince Franz Thaddäus von Waldburg-Zeil , the community gained greater ownership, which, however, led to over-indebtedness, so that an investigation was ordered by the government between 1851 and 1855.

Up until 1938, Zimmer was a municipality in the Rottweil district and was then added to the Balingen district.

Since 1973 Zimmer unter der Burg has been part of the newly formed Zollernalb district .

The school children from Zimmer probably went to school in Gößlingen in the 17th century . Since the end of the 18th century there was also a school in rooms.

Parish

Castle rooms under the castle

The castle (also: Schlössle or Schlösschen) rooms of the local authority, which has been documented since the 16th century, is a two-story plastered building with a mansard hipped roof .

Two thirds of the building were built from 1764 onwards. The remaining third only in the 18th century from 1842.

Originally it was the castle of the Barons von Hornstein. Then in the rule of the Counts of Sulz. In 1349 larger property came from them to the Lords of Sinkingen, who built a manor on it, which was later incorporated into the imperial knighthood. The estate and local rule passed to the Lords of Ehingen in 1524, to Landenberg in 1549 and to Vöhlin von Frickenhausen in 1657. Austria, which has claimed sovereignty since the 16th century, was granted blood jurisdiction in 1544 and jurisdiction and high authority in 1663. The manor was sold to von Stuben in 1661 and came from their heirs (after 1744) in two parts in 1792/99 to the Counts of Waldburg-Zeil. 1806 with their Oberamt Balgheim under Württemberg state sovereignty (Oberamt Spaichingen, 1810 Oberamt Rottweil). The patrimonial rights ceased in 1833 with the sale of the manor to the community. 1938 Balingen district.

The church later used the building as a rectory. In 1981 the castle was bought by the municipality.

From 1982 to 1987 the building was converted into a community center. Among other things, the fire brigade shed was housed in the building.

The listed building now houses the municipal administration / town hall and the kindergarten as well as a youth room, a library, event rooms and rehearsal rooms for the local clubs.

Population development

In the second half of the 19th century, over 200 people emigrated from Zimmer to North America due to economic difficulties .

The population thus decreased from 611 to 341 between 1850 and 1910.

Zimmer reached its peak in the post-war period in 2000 with 507 residents.

Municipal council

The municipal council in rooms under the castle consists of eight voluntary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the municipal council.

Alexandra Senn, Armin Rieble, Benjamin Gauss (Deputy Mayor), Bernd Mayer, Philipp Vogelmann, Volker Koch, Werner Panthen and Jasmin Willi currently represent the interests of the population in the municipal council.

In the local elections on May 26, 2019, the local council was elected by majority vote. Majority voting takes place if no or only one nomination has been submitted. The applicants with the highest number of votes are then elected. The turnout was 67.3% (2014: 72.7%).

In 1971, Zimmer merged with 7 other municipalities to form the Upper Schischemtal Municipal Administration Association and was thus able to maintain its municipal self-administration. Of the 25 independent district communities in the Zollernalb district , Zimmer is the 2nd smallest in terms of population.

In addition to the town of Schömberg, the municipal administration association Oberes Schischemtal includes the municipalities of Dautmergen, Dotternhausen, Dormettingen, Hausen am Tann, Ratshausen, Weilen unter den Rinnen and rooms under the castle.

The community administration association is active for Schömberg in the processing of personnel matters, the preparatory land-use planning, the cash transactions, the sponsorship of the Werkrealschule as well as the tourism promotion. The municipal administration association also takes care of the land value maps in the Upper Schischem valley.

Economy and Infrastructure

The municipal infrastructure (town hall, building yard, cemetery, fire station, community hall) should meet the needs of the small town.

A small residential area was also developed in 2005, so that building sites can be made available to those willing to build.

Zimmer is almost purely a community of residence, as there are only a few businesses, which together approx. Offer 20 jobs (many part-time). The vast majority of employees (around 200 people) therefore have to work away from home.
