Grosselfingen is a municipality in Zollernalbkreis in Baden-Wuerttemberg ( Germany ).

Geographical location

Grosselfingen is located in the foothills of the Swabian Alb almost ten kilometers northeast of the district town of Balingen .

Community structure

The community of Grosselfingen includes the market village (market town) Grosselfingen, the princely domain of Oberer Homburgerhof and the houses of Alter Berg and Bisinger Berg.

In the north of the district is the Hagenbach corridor, which indicates a lost town. Hagenbach is believed to be the seat of Albert von Haginbach, mentioned in 1225.

history

The first traces of human settlement activity on the mark date from the Neolithic Age (4000–2000 BC). In 1960 traces of Alemannic graves were found in the now-populated area , which probably date back to the 7th or 8th century. The fertile soils in the northern part of the area, the damp floodplains and the two streams in today's town are likely to have favored the settlement of the Alemanni .

The first documentary mention was in 1296, when a witness Berthold von "Grosselvingen" is mentioned. What is certain is that Grosselfingen is much older. This is indicated not least by the ending “ -ingen ”, which is used by the oldest places in the area.

The noble family of the Lords of Bubenhofen helped the place to flourish from the beginning of the 15th century until 1522. Own parish, high blood jurisdiction or market rights privilege are the external signs that let Grosselfingen step far beyond the circle of ordinary villages. The castle ruin "Neuhaus" (1420) belonging to the Lords of Bubenhofen is located in the upper village of Grosselfingen, today owned by the municipality. The Haimburg castle ruins of the Lords of Bubenhofen are located at the upper and lower Homburgerhof in Grosselfingen .

During the Second World War there was the Grosselfingen runway .

The municipal council in Grosselfingen has 12 members since the last election. It consists of the elected honorary councilors and the mayor as chairman.   • Marktgasse and Marktplatz, a unique, planned square, laid out by the Lords of Bubenhofen at the beginning of the 16th century, the original site of the Battle of Grosselfingen in 1733. While in most of the territories after the failure of the Peasants' War in Germany there was calm in 1525, the peasant uprisings only took place in the Kinzigtal and in the Principality of Hohenzollern. It finally culminated in the Battle of Grosselfingen, in which the village residents routed a princely army in 1733. For more than half a millennium, the performances of the Honorable Fool's Court of Grosselfingen have taken place here.   • The "Ehrsame Fool's Court of Grosselfingen" is a unique almost nocturnal home game in German-speaking countries with an unbroken tradition that goes back over 500 years. In its founding statutes of 1623, the Fools Court Brotherhood referred to an already existing long tradition. The performance takes place irregularly every three to seven years on Schmotzigen Dunnschtig and on the Sunday before that on the market square, which was laid out in the Middle Ages by the Lords of Bubenhofen . In December 2015, the Ehrsame Fool's Court was added to the nationwide register of intangible cultural heritage .
