The municipal council is elected according to the system of false suburbs . Accordingly, the electoral area is divided into electoral districts, which are identical to the city districts and are referred to as residential districts in accordance with the Baden-Württemberg municipal code . The two districts of Binsdorf and Erlaheim also form localities within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code, each with its own local council and mayor as its chairman. Local administrative offices of the mayor's office have been set up in Binsdorf and Erlaheim.
The Binsdorf district includes the formerly independent town of Binsdorf, the place Lorettokapelle, the courtyards Binsdorfer Mühle, Keinbachmühle and Steinfurterhof and the houses Hofstetten (Hochsträß), Pelzmühle and Schafhaus. The village of Erlaheim belongs to the district of Erlaheim. The Geislingen district includes the town of Geislingen, the Waldhof homestead and the Schießhaus houses.
In the urban area there are some that have been abandoned and no longer exist today. In the north of the district of Binsdorf lies the Ammelhausen desert, which is mentioned in 1333 and 1340 as Amalahusen , the name of the place still exists as a field name. The village of Berkheim, which was mentioned as Berckha around 1340, was near Hofstetten, but was probably already desolate at that time. Alemannic row graves from the 7th century belong to Berkheim. There was a hamlet in the Bubenhofer Tal, presumably called Langenau. Another suspected Alemannic burial ground in the Weilertal could point to another abandoned settlement. In the Erlaheim district in today's Flur Achdorf is the village of Dachdorf, which was lost before 1300 and has been mentioned as a field name since 1320. The field name Hödorf mentioned around 1350 and 1384 could also indicate a desertification. In the Geislingen district are the desert areas Balgenau, which has been used as a field name since 1372, and Bergheim, which has been used as a field name since 1490.
history
Geislingen
In Roman times, southwest of Geislingen, there was a fort in the Alblimes , which was discovered in the aerial photograph in 1986. In science it is called Kastell Geislingen / Häsenbühl . Roman settlement remains have been known for a long time, and they probably belong to a vicus . A memorial with an emperor's inscription stood next to the road that connected Rottweil and Rottenburg.
Geislingen was founded during the Alemannic conquest between the 3rd and 6th centuries AD. The typical -ingen ending refers to a clan led by a Gisilio .
In the 14th century, the Lords of Bubenhofen exercised the local rule. At first they sat in a castle that stood next to today's palace . In 1426, Wolf the Elder von Bubenhofen built today's castle (today's northwest wing). Through inheritance through several families, Geislingen came to the barons of Stauffenberg in 1762 . They expanded the castle in its current form. The Geislingen manor, privately owned by the von Stauffenberg family, existed until 1927 when it was closed. The municipality of Geislingen had acquired the castle, five other buildings, the castle garden and the pond (today's outdoor pool) from the family in an exchange agreement in 1925.
On November 28, 1805, Elector Friedrich brought Geislingen under his rule. The place was assigned to the Oberamt Balingen , which belonged to the Kingdom of Württemberg from 1806 to 1918 and then to the national state of the same name . During the district reforms in Württemberg during the Nazi era , Geislingen joined the district in 1934 and the district of Balingen in 1938 .
After the Second World War Geislingen fell into the French occupation zone and was thus assigned to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern in 1947, which in 1952 became the administrative district of Südwürttemberg-Hohenzollern in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
As a result of the district reform , Geislingen became part of the Zollernalb district on January 1, 1973.
After the incorporation of the city of Binsdorf in the course of the municipal reform in 1974, Geislingen was awarded the city title on January 1, 1975.
Erlaheim and Binsdorf
Erlaheim and Binsdorf belonged to Upper Austria . Both came to Württemberg in 1805 .
religion
All three districts are mostly Catholic .
politics

SPD | 2 |
mayor
The mayor is directly elected for a term of eight years. Oliver Schmid has been mayor of Geislingen (independent) since 2007. He replaced Günther-Martin Pauli (CDU), who was in office from 1997 to 2007.
coat of arms
Blazon : "Two silver zigzag bars under the silver shield head in red." | |
Justification of the coat of arms: This is the coat of arms of the Lords of Bubenhofen. The stag bar, which was sometimes shown in the main shield, was recently removed because Geislingen was not an old Württemberg town. |
Town twinning
Geislingen has had a partnership with Ruoms in the French department of Ardèche since 1999 .
