Upper Schischemtal
The Obere Schischemtal is a local recreation area in the southwest of the Baden-Württemberg Zollernalb district , which is crossed by the eponymous river Schischem .

The valley is particularly impressive with the adjacent mountains Plettenberg and Ortenberg , which are among the highest mountains in the Swabian Alb and can be climbed and explored via many hiking trails. The villages of Tieringen , Hausen am Tann , Ratshausen and Dautmergen in the valley also invite you to go hiking and cycling with their village beauty. The small town of Schomberg , which rises with its impressive old town above the Schlichemtal forms with the Schlichemtalsperre the center of the Upper Schlichemtals.
Numerous hotels, a campsite , guest houses and holiday apartments invite you to go hiking, relaxing and, in winter, skiing.

The towns and communities Schömberg, Dotternhausen , Ratshausen, Hausen am Tann, Tieringen (district of Meßstetten , not a member of the GVV Oberes Schischemtal), Weilen unter den Rinnen , Schörzingen (district of Schömberg), rooms below the castle , Dautmergen and Dormettingen belong to the upper level Schischemtal. Together they form the Upper Schischemtal community administration association .

Popular destinations in the valley are the Schischemtalsperre, also known as the “ Schömberger Stausee ”, near Schömberg, the Plettenberg ( 1002 m above sea level ) with a view of the Alps and the Black Forest , the Narrenmuseum in Schömberg and the fossil museum in Dotternhausen ( Werkforum ).

The five highest peaks in the Upper Schischemtal are the Rainen ( 1006 m ), the Plettenberg ( 1002 m ), the Schafberg ( 999 m ), the Ortenberg ( 996 m ) and the Lochenstein ( 964 m ).
Buildings
Well-known structures in the Upper Schischem Valley are the Schischem Viaduct , a railway viaduct over the Schischemtalsperre ( Balingen – Rottweil railway line ), and the Palmbühl pilgrimage church near Schömberg.
