The Schischemtalsperre (also called Schömberger Stausee , mostly just a reservoir on site ) to the east of Schömberg in Baden-Württemberg dams the Schischem , a tributary of the Neckar coming from the Swabian Alb . Around the Schischemtalsperre lies the 90.7 hectare nature reserve Schömberger Stausee with Palmbühl .
description
The approximately 1.35 km long and initially narrow, towards the end up to 175 m wide reservoir with an area of 10.4 ha at 643.8 m above sea level. NHN begins at its hamlet Untere Säge and extends to the old town center of Schömberg. It has a catchment area of around 33.5 km², to which the 11 km long Schlicher at the inlet contributes almost 90%. The up to 1.2 km long watercourses Hölzlegraben from the forest to the right of the lake and Scheubühlgraben and Räßentälebach flow to the side from the left.
A fish ladder leads from the Vorsee pre-barrier at the Untere Säge to the reservoir. There is also the only bridge over the lake that can be walked and driven on. The Schischem Viaduct can only be used by the railway.
history
The Schischemtalsperre was built from 1940 to 1944. The company Portlandzementwerk Rudolf Rohrbach KG (today Holcim (Süddeutschland) GmbH ), which was based in neighboring Dotternhausen and was the builder of the dam , initially used it to obtain cooling water and generate electricity. After the Second World War , the facility was taken over by the state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern in 1948. The reservoir was rehabilitated from 1975 to 1983. The barrier structure is an earth dam , the hydroelectric power plant located in it has an output of 60 kW. There is a pre-dam, the Vorsee, which was built from 1975 to 1977.
The Schischem Viaduct
The reservoir is crossed by a railway viaduct , which, with its unique design, is the “gem” of the reservoir. The arched bridge, which was completed in 1909, long before the damming of the Schischem, has a total length of almost 83 meters and a height of around 19 meters. The field widths are 21-26-21 meters.
use
The Schischemtalsperre was bought from the then cement works in 1948 for 300,000 DM and has belonged to the state of Baden-Württemberg ever since.
The reservoir serves as an important flood retention basin for the neighboring communities.
In addition, the turbine in the dam produces 180,000 kWh of electricity per year.
nature
The dam serves as a biotope for various animal species. In addition to numerous fish, other aquatic animals, amphibians and water birds are also among the inhabitants of the lake. Among other things, beavers have settled around the reservoir.
On various occasions, for example, fish are released by the Balingen-Schömberg fishing association, but they are not fully caught again.
Bathing lake
The reservoir with its 2.5 km circumference is a well-known excursion destination in the Zollernalb district and forms the center of the local recreation area Oberes Schischemtal . The clear, clean water and the excellent water quality make it particularly popular as a bathing lake.
The bathing area is on the northeast bank of the dam, which can be recognized by buoys. Boats are not allowed to enter the bathing area, but swimming is permitted in the entire lake.
The beach area is partially monitored by the DLRG in summer . A rescue pier has been in place since 2018 to make the DLRG easier to use.
In May 2020 the municipal council of the city of Schömberg decided to remove all "attractions around swimming". The background to this is a ruling by the Federal Court of Justice from December 2017, which does not clearly regulate the extent to which municipalities can be made liable for personal injury in waters that invite you to swim. Until this has been resolved, the showers will be closed, the buoys in the bathing area will be removed and the bathing island will no longer be lowered into the water.
sport and freetime
A boat rental makes it possible to navigate the lake with pedal boats and electric boats. Directly on the lake are two kiosks and various restaurants, a campsite and a small amusement park, which includes a miniature half-timbered village.
A completely paved circular path with a length of approx. 2.7 km leads around the lake. The variant around the Vorsee extends the circular route by approx. One kilometer and is only partially asphalted and closed to general motorized traffic. The Schischemwanderweg leads past the reservoir on part of the circular route. The circular route is used by many walkers, hikers, joggers, cyclists and other athletes.
In spring, the Schömberger Volkslauf of the athletics department of the TG Schömberg takes place, which leads in three laps around the reservoir and the Vorsee.
Driving on the reservoir with motorized boats with the exception of boats from the boat rental company, the DLRG and the fire brigade is prohibited.
Floating stage
In October 2019, the construction of a floating stage at the "upper kiosk" in the area of the dam began. Construction was completed in early 2020. As early as 2016, the first ideas for a floating stage came up as part of a citizens' dialogue and a community development concept. The floating stage is intended to be used for cultural events and concerts, but also as an extension area to upgrade the kiosk.
Reservoir triathlon
Until 2016 the TG Schömberg organized the reservoir triathlon. The start was on the north shore of the lake. From there, the athletes set out on the 1,400 m long swim course through the lake. At the viaduct there was a buoy that had to be swum around in order to swim in the opposite direction to the destination. The end of the swimming section was at the level of the storage kiosk. From there we went on foot to the transition area, which was located on the reservoir road directly on the dam on the north bank.
From there, the participants set out on a 43 km long cycle route, which led across parts of Obernhohenberg and Deilingen twice .
The final 10 km running route began again in this transition area and partly led along the reservoir.
traffic
Reached the dam on Sundays and public holidays from May to October, the Cyclo-shuttle of HzL which the stop Schomberg reservoir served. The stop was built in 2002 and is 150 meters from the bathing area.
Otherwise, footpaths, hiking trails and bike paths, as well as roads from the direction of Ratshausen , Dotternhausen and the center of the town of Schömberg lead to the reservoir. Parking spaces are available at the foot of the Palmbühl mountain.
The reservoir road runs directly over the dam and is open to general road traffic. The circular route around the reservoir runs parallel to this.
Landscape protection area
The area around the reservoir, the Palmbühl towering north-east of it in the forest ( 724.2 m above sea level ) and the pilgrimage church on the lower slope down the lake were named Schömberger Stausee by ordinance of the former Balingen district office on June 4, 1965 Palmbühl (protected area no. 4.17.037) designated as a landscape protection area. The area has a size of 90.7 hectares.
Others
- In 2007 the first lake festival took place instead of the Schömberg city festival
- The Vorsee is often used by anglers from the Balingen-Schömberg eV fishing association
- The club area of the Schömberg eV curling club is located directly on the lake. In winter, if the ice is thick enough, the lake is also used for curling
