The Oberhohenberg is 1009.6 m above sea level. NHN the second highest mountain in the Swabian Alb and the highest in the Zollernalb district . The Oberhohenberg is for the most part within the boundaries of the city Schomberg belonging hamlet Schörzingen . It belongs to the region of tens of thousands . The name of the medieval county of Hohenberg , which had its lands around the Oberhohenberg, is derived from the Oberhohenberg.
history
Excavations show that the mountain was already inhabited by the Alemanni . In the Middle Ages, the county of Hohenberg had its seat on the Oberhohenberg.
The Oberhohenberg Castle was built on the Oberhohenberg around 1150 , a castle about 77 m long and 40 m wide. After the handover to Austria, changing and sometimes dubious feudal lords came to the castle. As a result of a feud, the castle was besieged by Rottweiler soldiers in 1449 , captured and completely destroyed.
The town of Hohenberg and a village (in today's Weiler area ) were also located at the foot of the mountain . Both also disappeared at that time.
A Meierhof stood about 170 m northwest of the town. The manor Oberhohenberg was managed by the Meierhof as an independent part of the Deilingen community . Since 1825 the owners have been the families of the Barons von Ow . The courtyard burned down on September 8, 1899, remains are still visible today. In 1907 the manor was auctioned in its entirety to abolish the community and acquired by Schörzingen for 149,300 marks. In 1909 the Hohenberg submarking was split up and dissolved. The part at the foot of the Oberhohenberg came to the districts of Deilingen and Delkhofen, the rest came to the districts of Schörzingen.
The sheep house, which was very close to the town of Hohenberg, was only built after the castle was destroyed. In 1921 it was demolished by the community of Schörzingen.
