Otto Foellinger

Otto Föllinger (born October 10, 1924 in Hanau ; † January 18, 1999 in Karlsruhe ) was professor for control engineering at the University of Karlsruhe and textbook author.

Otto Föllinger was born as the son of an engineer in Hanau, spent his youth and school days in Dortmund and passed his Abitur there in 1943. He studied mathematics and physics for teaching at the University of Frankfurt and received his doctorate in mathematics in 1952. From 1956 he worked in industry at AEG . After he was appointed head of the Institute for Regulation and Control Systems (IRS) of the Electrotechnical Faculty of the University of Karlsruhe in 1965 , he worked there scientifically until his retirement in 1990. He also worked for the University of Hagen .

He achieved notoriety and popularity in his specialist area through excellent didactic teaching material and books that are pioneering in the German-speaking area. In particular, his basic book on control engineering is a standard work. Some of his students and members of his academic environment now have their own professorships at universities in Germany, Egypt, South Africa and the USA, for example Günter Roppenecker ( University of Erlangen-Nuremberg ), Ansgar Trächtler ( University of Paderborn ), Werner Zorn ( University of Karlsruhe , then Hasso- Plattner Institute at the University of Potsdam ), Lothar Litz ( TU Kaiserslautern ), Boris Lohmann ( TU Munich ), Ulrich Konigorski ( TU Darmstadt ) and Kai-Shing Yeung ( University of Texas at Arlington ).
