The nature reserve is located in the Mittlere Kuppenalb natural area and is located in the Lauchert valley about 1000 meters northwest of Hörschwag . The area is part of the FFH area No. 7821-341 " Areas around the Laucherttal " and it is completely surrounded by the landscape protection area No. 4.17.044 " Laucherttal with side valleys ".

Protection purpose
