The roller mill is a water-powered grinding and sawmill in the upper Lauchert valley in what is now Burladingen, not far from Stetten unter Holstein on the outskirts of Hörschwag on the Swabian Alb .

The first mention in 1406 of the former grinding mill, which belonged to Hölnstein Castle, was in connection with when Killer had sold the right to the annual interest from the Rufen mill.

Around 1590, the master Locher acquired the roller mill, which at that time was still run as a ban mill. At that time, all farmers from Stetten and Hörschwag had to grind their flour there until 1832 due to the mill . It was not until 1848 that the millers became free owners without being forced to mill.

Friedrich Walz from Neufra acquired the mill in 1883, which his son Konstantin Walz took over and which was later operated by the Walz sisters.

The rolling mill became known nationwide as " Albmühle " through the 75-minute documentary by Rudolf Werner , which was broadcast on ARD for the first time on December 25, 1999, called "The Lord God Knows What Happens With Us - The Sisters of the Albmühle" . The sisters Marie and Klara Walz, who lived there without running water or electricity as self-sufficient, ran the mill together as a contract saw until 2001 . In August 2001, the 85-year-old Marie Walz died. After that, Klara Walz, nine years her junior, continued to run the mill alone until 2009 in order to preserve her parents' inheritance. The last of the Walz-Mühle sisters died on April 2, 2015. The obituary notice in the "Black Forest Messenger" is provided with the slogan: "Lord God knows what is happening to us". The burial took place in Stetten u. H. instead of.

chapel

The mill chapel, built in 1862, is right next to the roller mill. In the listed chapel there is a ceiling painting by Father Tutilo from Beuron .

The establishment of a support association to set up a museum in the mill has been discussed since spring 2012.

Today the mill is privately owned by a tax advisor from Reutlingen. The chapel is open to visitors. There are regular mill tours for interested visitors.
