Killer is a village in the Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg . It is 656  m above sea level. NN and has 612 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). Killer has belonged to the city of Burladingen since 1973 . It is 5.5 kilometers northwest of it.

Killer is centrally located in the Killertal , the upper reaches of the Starzel, named after the village . The federal road 32 and the trunk line of the Hohenzollerische Landesbahn from Hechingen to Sigmaringen run through the village .

history

Killer is first mentioned as Kilwilar in 1255 . To the north of the old village center was the abandoned Killer Castle , a moated castle owned by the Lords of Killer, which was first handed down at the end of the 14th century. They were ministerials to the Counts of Zollern . In 1377 an Albert von Killer was killed in the battle of Reutlingen .

Killer had 443 inhabitants in 1790 and 576 in 1867.

On January 1, 1973, Killer was incorporated into Burladingen.

Killer is probably the youngest village in the Killertal . As an early church, his church was the mother church in Killertal. The current church was built in 1565 on the site of a previous church from around 1300. Back then, Killer was a popular place of pilgrimage . In 1488 the parishes of Hausen im Killertal and Jungingen were separated from the original parish as independent parishes. Killer has been a branch of the parish of Hausen since 1530.

The church tower had to be demolished and rebuilt after the earthquake in 1978.

economy

The killer, known as the whip village , was the center of regional whip production until after the Second World War . That is why there is the German Whip Museum in the village and a whip is depicted in the coat of arms of the formerly independent community.

Trivia

Because of the place name, which also stands for a contract killer , the place name signs are stolen again and again.
