The Killer Castle is a lost moated castle in Killer , a district of Burladingen in the Zollernalb district ( Baden-Württemberg ). The facility was located about 200 meters north of the church and west of the town hall between Hofstättstrasse and Bolweg.
history
The castle was built by the Lords of Killer, they were Ministeriale of the Counts of Zollern and were mentioned in the 13th century. In addition to their ancestral castle in the village of Killer, the ministerials also owned Frundsburg Castle , which is only a little to the north . They also called themselves after Ringelstein Castle and Ringingen .
In 1375 Heinrich von Killer fighting as an equestrian leader in Italy with the nickname "Affenschmalz" can be traced. The noble family probably died out in 1485.
description
In 1954, the remains of the castle were discovered and documented during an excavation . A trench was found that bent at a right angle and the legs were 24 meters long. The trench was two meters wide at its bottom and eight meters at the top. Since sediments were found at its bottom , it must have been a water-bearing ditch. In addition, there was a 60 centimeter thick lining wall at the edge of the ditch .
Further remains of the foundation wall with a thickness of two meters were found in the inner castle area; they suggest a tower-shaped building or a permanent house . Today the private area is a garden property.
