history

Keep and front building

The castle, presumably built in the 12th century, whose builder and early inhabitants are unknown, was first mentioned in 1344. At that time, Count Eberhard II and Ulrich von Württemberg, who were the owners of the castle at that time, gave their part of Melchingen Castle, the village, bailiwick, court and three estates in Ringingen to Burkhard von Melchingen as a fief. After 1439 parts of the castle were sold again and again, in 1555 it was owned by Württemberg and was probably a ruin around 1592 after it was destroyed (already called " Burgstall " in 1580 ). From 1979 to 1984 the ruins were repaired by the city of Burladingen under the direction of architect Wilfried Pfefferkorn.
