The Schafberg-Lochenstein area is a nature reserve designated by ordinance on November 20, 1987 by the Tübingen regional council in the area of the municipality of Hausen am Tann and the town of Balingen in the Zollernalb district .

location

The Schafberg-Lochenstein nature reserve is located about one kilometer north of Hausen am Tann and six kilometers south of the city of Balingen. It belongs to the natural area Hohe Schwabenalb . The protected area includes the peaks, plateaus and slopes of Schafberg , Wenzelstein and Lochenstein .

The nature reserve is part of the FFH area Östlicher Großer Heuberg and the bird sanctuary Südwestalb and Upper Danube Valley . It is completely surrounded by the Großer Heuberg nature reserve.

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is "to maintain and care for the Lochenstein, Schafberg and Wenzelstein in their natural state."

Landscape character

The Schafberg, the Wenzelstein and the Lochen are the witness mountains in front of the Albtrauf. Its slopes are largely forested, on the plateaus there are mostly grasslands and juniper heaths. There are impressive rocky areas on the slopes.

Flora and fauna

Notable species in the area are the alpine stone quendel and the pale yellow clover .
