The FFH area Ostlicher Großer Heuberg is located in the south of Baden-Württemberg and is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas . It was designated in 2005 by the Tübingen regional council.
location
The approximately 2189 hectare (ha) large protected area of the Eastern Great Heuberg lies in the natural areas of the Southwestern Alb foreland and the High Swabian Alb . The eleven sub-areas are located in the communities Dotternhausen , Ratshausen , Balingen , Obernheim , Hausen am Tann , Meßstetten , Albstadt , Nusplingen and Schömberg in the Zollernalb district and Egesheim in the Tuttlingen district .

The nature of the landscape of the protected area is essentially shaped by the plateau of the Großer Heuberg with its lean mountain and flatland meadows, juniper heaths and grasslands as well as the steep, rocky slopes of the Albtraufs.
