location
The nature reserve is located in the Hohe Schwabenalb natural area . It is located around two kilometers west of the Albstadt district of Laufen an der Eyach . The reserve is located on the escarpment and is limited to the adjacent to the eaves steep slope zone. The length of the protected eaves edge is around four kilometers. The highest point in the area is the Lochenhörnle . In the eastern part, the nature reserve overlaps with the Untereck forest . In the western part of its area of application, the area borders on the Hülenbuchwiesen nature reserve to the south . The protected area is part of the FFH area No. 7819–341 Östlicher Großer Heuberg as well as the bird protection area No. 7820–441 Südwestalb and Upper Danube Valley .
Protection purpose
According to the ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation and ecological improvement of the hillside forests, scree slopes and rock formations in the upper level of the Albtraufes between Tobeltalstraße and Lochenpass . Here the connections between the geological subsoil, geomorphological processes, climate, soil formation, vegetation, national culture and landscape become clear. The extreme relief, climate and soil conditions lead to an extremely delicate structure of habitats for numerous endangered, protected and rare animal and plant species.
Flora and fauna
The following are representative of the numerous endangered plant species: yellow lady's slipper , yellow gentian and fragrant handelwort . The hazel grouse must be mentioned as a special faunistic feature .
