Gnagen is a nature reserve with the number 4.132 designated by the Tübingen regional council of December 23, 1985 .

location

The nature reserve is located in the natural area of the southwestern Alb foreland and is north of the city of Geislingen . It is part of the FFH area No. 7718-341 Kleiner Heuberg and Albvorland near Balingen and of the bird sanctuary No. 7718-441 meadow landscape near Balingen .

Protection purpose

According to the ordinance, the protection purpose is the preservation of a wetland with small-scale mosaic structures from semi-dry lawns to predominantly alternately moist to wet locations within a stream valley in connection with individual trees, hedges and a meadow orchard as an ecologically outstanding breeding ground for numerous bird species on the Red List that are threatened with extinction. The wetland flora in its typical formations and the variety of water-dependent spiders, butterflies, dragonflies, amphibians, birds and small mammals are particularly worth protecting.

Flora and fauna

Globeflower , marsh marigold and snake knotweed are found in the great sedge and wet meadows of the area . The following bird species can be found: red-backed killer , wryneck , quail , partridge and whinchat .
