history

Even before the Albstadt-Bitz landscape conservation area was designated, numerous areas in this area were under landscape protection. The oldest landscape protection ordinance related to parts of the landscape in the Onstmettingen district and was passed in 1936.

The landscape protection area has been reduced in size several times since it was designated. The reason for this was the designation of several nature reserves, which led to a reduction of a total of 127 hectares. In addition, in 2005 some of the construction areas planned at that time were removed from the landscape protection area.

Contiguous protected areas

Several nature reserves are embedded in the landscape protection area. The FFH area around Albstadt is largely located with the landscape protection area. Some parts of the landscape protection area belong to the bird sanctuary Südwestalb and Upper Danube Valley .

The landscape protection area Albstadt-Bitz is directly adjacent to the landscape protection areas Oberes Starzeltal and Zollerberg , Hundsücken and Großer Heuberg .
