The Eisenbachhain area is a nature reserve designated by the ordinance of 23 August 1937 (NSG number 4.003) and a protected forest . This makes it one of the oldest nature reserves in Baden-Württemberg and the oldest in Schönbuch and the Tübingen district. The NSG and the Bannwald are practically congruent.

location

The Eisenbachhain is located around 2 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Dettenhausen and around 4 kilometers west of the municipality of Walddorfhäslach . The approximately 8.3 hectare (ha) area is part of the Schönbuch and Glemswald natural area . It lies on the oak ridge, a wooded elevation between the Neckar and Schaichtal valleys . The area is located at an altitude of 470 to 490  m above sea level. NHN .

There is tourist development to the north via a hiking car park on the B 464 , from there a circular hiking trail of the hiking trail network in the Schönbuch nature park leads around the protected area.

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is the undisturbed natural development and preservation of the old forest of a former Hutewaldes with its over 300-year-old oaks, over 200-year-old willow beeches and other old hanging birches and hornbeams . In places, dense stocks of turf , riding grass and seaweed indicate that this grazing has not been practiced for a long time. A natural rejuvenation of the tree population, predominantly by red beech, takes place in the places where old trees have collapsed or fallen over, creating open ground. At the same time, the area was designated as a protected forest and therefore no forestry use was made; hunting is permitted.

fauna

The old trees and dead wood stocks are used as nesting opportunities by hawk, sparrowhawk, great spotted woodpecker, gray woodpecker, small woodpecker, middle woodpecker, black woodpecker and stock dove. There is also the rare hermit .
