from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Ferdinand Balthasar Stieffell (* December 1737 in Würzburg , † March 23, 1818 in Rastatt ) was a German organ builder .

Life

Johann Ferdinand Balthasar Stieffell learned the organ building trade from 1751 to 1757 from the master Johann Konrad Brandenstein in Stadtamhof . Later he stayed with Johann Philipp Seuffert in Würzburg. From 1758 to 1766 he worked together with his eldest son Johann Ignaz Seuffert , citizen and organ builder of Offenburg , from whom the organs in the church of Alsheim (1764) and in the castle church Rastatt (1765) have been preserved. In 1767 he became a citizen and organ builder in Rastatt together with Johann Ignaz Seuffert, and in 1787 he was appointed court organ builder.

The organ in the church of the St. Blasien Monastery, built by Johann Andreas Silbermann under Prince Abbot Martin Gerbert from 1771 to 1775 , was expanded by him in 1807 in the course of secularization and moved to the Stephanskirche in Karlsruhe in 1813 , where it was destroyed by the effects of the war in 1944.

His three sons Franz Lorenz Stieffell (* August 10, 1781; † January 20, 1835), Christian Valentin Stieffell (* December 4, 1787; † October 5, 1861) and Max Ulrich Stieffell (* October 12, 1790; † 16. March 1860) continued his workshop in Rastatt from 1818 to 1860.
