Kauffenheim is a French commune with 215 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ), about 36 kilometers northeast of Strasbourg .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document as "Chochinheim" in the year 884. From this name, today's Kauffenheim developed via Cochenheim, Chochenheim, Cooking home and Koechenheim. From 1359 to 1680 the village was owned by the von Fleckenstein noble family, who lived in Fleckenstein Castle . In 1720 it fell into the possession of the Princess of Rohan-Soubise and remained there until the French Revolution .
