Soultz-sous-Forêts (German Sulz unterm Wald ) is a French commune with 3,177 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It is located in the canton of Wissembourg . The appendix to the place name was derived from the hilly, largely forested landscape. The community is located in the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve . On July 1, 1982, the village of Hohwiller (German: Hohweiler ) was incorporated. This street village is located southeast of the main settlement.

Attractions
- The Protestant church was built at the end of the 15th century.
- The Catholic Peter and Paul Church was consecrated in 1910.
- The former synagogue in Soultz was built in 1897 in neo-Romanesque style.
- The simultaneous church of John the Baptist in Hohwiller dates from the 18th century, but the choir is Gothic and contains wall paintings from 1491.
Economy and Infrastructure
In Soultz-sous-Forêts there is the Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières , a research institute for geology and mining (minières = ore mine).
In 1986 the planning of a deep geothermal power plant began. In July 2008, after been enhanced geothermal system working power plant taken as the first of its kind in operation in France. Electricité de Strasbourg is the buyer of the electricity generated . The plant has a capacity of 1.5 MWe, with which it can supply around 1500 households.
