The French community Leutenheim lies in the plane of the Rhine in Alsace Department Bas-Rhin in the region Grand Est . It has 837 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). According to documents from the 8th and 9th centuries, the place was then called "Lithaim". Since the Rhine branched out into numerous tributaries before it was canalized, the settlements were built on terps at the time .
