Weyersheim is a French commune with 3,356 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). On January 1, 2015, Weyersheim moved from the Arrondissement Strasbourg-Campagne to the Arrondissement Haguenau-Wissembourg .

Weyersheim is located 15 kilometers northeast of Strasbourg on the Zorn .

The neighboring communities clockwise are Gries in the north, Bischwiller in the east, Gambsheim in the south-east, Kilstett in the south, Hœrdt in the south-west, Bietlenheim in the west and Kurtzenhouse in the north-west.

history

Weyersheim was first mentioned in 774 in a deed of donation in favor of the Weißenburg monastery .

During the Thirty Years War , the place was almost completely destroyed twice. Only one house, the Kleenderfel , which is considered to be one of the oldest preserved half-timbered houses in Alsace, remained intact.

A formal town partnership with Rot am See has existed since 2000 . Informal contacts go back to the 1980s.

Attractions

The classical church of Saint-Michel was built from 1784 under Salins de Montfort . It is equipped with an organ from 1877 and has been entered in the Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques since 1930 .
