Mothern borders on Germany . The Rhine forms the state border . The river used to branch off into numerous main and tributaries. At the former river bed there were at least two settlements, called Haut-Village and Bas-Village . As is well known, the Rhine was straightened according to plans by the engineer Tulla , so that Mothern grew much later to a population of almost 2000 people. Today tourism plays an important role there.
