Kindwiller (German Kindweiler ) is a street village and a French commune in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). Kindwiller belongs to the canton of Reichshoffen and has 637 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

geography

The place is located in the Upper Rhine Plain about 15 kilometers west of Haguenau .

history

Kindwiller was first mentioned in a document as Kintwilre in 1263. At that time, the area belonged to the Landvogt von Hagenau . Later on, the high German name Kindweiler emerged.

In 1561 Kindwiller became Catholic again after becoming Protestant in 1545 as a result of the war . Until then, the pastor of Uhrwiller administered the parish.

Kindwiller was also an imperial village .

Infrastructure

The municipal administration and the majority of the houses are located on Rue Principale . Outside of town, the municipality is mainly used for agriculture.

Attractions

  • The church was rebuilt after a German bomb attack. Only the original choir of the church is still preserved.
