Oberrœdern (German Oberrödern ) is a French commune with 525 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Haguenau-Wissembourg and the Canton of Wissembourg .

Casemate Oberrœdern

The municipality of Oberrœdern is located on the Seltzbach , about 20 kilometers northeast of Haguenau . Affiliated to the community is the "Camp d´Oberroedern" located outside the core village, which was built as a barracks for the soldiers stationed there in the course of the construction of the Maginot Line at the end of the 1920s. The barracks area consisted of buildings for the accommodation of soldiers, canteen buildings, military hospital, officers' mess, horse stables (cavalry), detention center, ammunition depot, houses for the officers and several small functional buildings. Today the area is privately owned.

history

From July 1, 1974 to January 1, 1988, Oberrœdern formed a single community with Stundwiller and Aschbach . Then Aschbach became independent again, and a year later Oberrœdern and Stundwiller also separated.
