geography
Uhlwiller is located between Dauendorf in the northwest and Ohlungen in the southeast, eight kilometers northwest of Haguenau . The hamlet Niederaltdorf in the southwest belongs to Uhlwiller.
history
From the 14th century, the place belonged to the Neubourg monastery . As a result of a legal dispute with the monastery, residents of the village killed Abbot Berthold in 1333 and later had to pay atonement for it.
Culture and sights
The Musée du pain (bread museum) in Uhlwiller shows the development of grain processing from sowing to baking bread over the course of time.
A first chapel Saint-Nicolas in the hamlet Niederaltdorf was built around 1393. The present chapel was built around 1617. A Gothic arch from the previous building has been preserved in a side wall.
A church Saint-Pierre was mentioned for the first time in 766. The church at that time was commissioned by the Saints-Pierre-et-Paul monastery in Wissembourg . The nave was renewed in 1740, whereby the medieval tower was preserved. In 1822 the church was enlarged, destroyed in 1876 and rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style in 1877 .
