Mönch Orgelbau is an organ building company in Überlingen on Lake Constance.

history

With Xaver Mönch (1843–1907) the organ building of the Mönch family in Überlingen began in 1875. Organ building was already a tradition there. Well-known organ builders such as Johann Georg Aichgasser , whose successor was Johann Baptist Lang and, from 1816, Anton Hieber , who continued the tradition , lived and worked here.

From 1907 Otto Mönch (1876–1954) headed his father's workshop. It was followed in 1954 by the founder's grandson, Karl-Otto Mönch (1909–1983), from 1972 with Horst F. Prachtel (1934–1986) as a partner. In 1975 Peter Mönch (* 1952) succeeded his father. The company was then called Mönch und Prachtel. In 1986 Horst F. Prachtel died in a traffic accident. Two years later, Peter Mönch received management support from his brother Hans Mönch (* 1956).

Relationships with other organ builders

Xaver Mönch founded an organ building workshop together with Wilhelm August Schwarz as early as 1873 . However, the two company owners separated again in 1875 and each continued to run their own company.

Albert Reiser (1874–1947) learned the trade of organ building at the Mönch company, among others.

Josef Zeilhuber Sr. (1889–1964) worked for Otto Mönch from 1908 to 1927, from 1914 as a workshop master. His son Josef Zeilhuber jun. was trained by Mönch.

Gunnar Schmid (* 1967) learned organ building from 1988 at the Mönch company.
