geography

Kappel is a settlement on the first side of the valley of southern Eschach with a small cluster-like core and an extension axis to the northwest along two parallel streets. Southern district with an industrial area on the right side of the valley. New buildings in the south, north and north-west. It is 3 km southwest of Niedereschach.

history

Kappel was first mentioned in 1086 as Capeila . When first mentioned, Richart von Kappel and his son of the same name appeared as witnesses to a document for the Sankt Georgen monastery . A local aristocratic family is documented in donations to the Salem monastery in 1167 and 1183. In 1476, St. Georgen bought part of the town from the citizens of Rottweiler , and in 1511 Villingen citizens also left their rights to Kappel to the Benedictines. The abbot of St. Georgen and Jakob von Freiberg appear as owners of the village in 1544. At this time a castle in Kappel was mentioned, which was probably owned by von Freiberg, who in 1566 sold half of it to the city of Rottweil at short notice. It remained in the St. Georgen Monastery Office until 1806, when it was transferred to the Württemberg Oberamt in Rottweil. In 1810 it was exchanged for the Grand Duchy of Baden , where it was then located in the Villingen office.

Since January 1st, 1974 it has been part of the Niedereschach community.
