coat of arms

Blazon : "In blue with a blue-silver cloud border, three (2: 1) golden wheels."
Justification of the coat of arms: In a gender book from 1498 is in the 12./13. Century a knightly family of Guotmadingen mentioned. They had three gold six-spoke wagon wheels on a blue background in their coat of arms.

After this knight family died out, Gutmadingen went to the Landgraviate of Wartenberg. This in turn in 1318 by marriage to the Fürstenbergers.

In 1895, the Grand Ducal Baden Historical Commission approached the municipality regarding a coat of arms, because a large number of municipalities did not have a coat of arms or the municipal coat of arms that is in use often does not meet the requirements from the scientific and artistic point of view. In 1903 the community received one from the Grh. Generallandesarchiv prepared coat of arms and an explanation: “Gutmadingen was the seat of a knight family who had the same coat of arms as the Lords of Eschingen. Hence the three golden wagon wheels on a blue background. They were surrounded by the silver 'edge of the cloud', created from the silver feud of the Lords of Urach, the founders of the Fürstenberg dynasty. In October 1903 the municipal council accepted the proposal for a coat of arms. "

Culture and sights

In the brotherhood chapel Maria Trost in Schulstrasse 4 from 1760, a Black Madonna is venerated. The original Black Madonna was lost. In 2000, a black Madonna modeled on the famous statue of the Madonna from Einsiedeln was purchased as a replacement .
