Ried in the Upper Inn Valley Tyrol Loretto Chapel at the Capuchin Monastery statue ??? The Maria Loreto Chapel is located next to the entrance to the Capuchin Church. It owes its creation to the priest Gaulrapp, who was curate of Ried around 1654. He had a replica of the statue of the Virgin Mary from Loreto set up and venerated here. The influx of people was so great that it soon became necessary to build a separate chapel. This was consecrated after completion in 1666. To this day, the place of grace is visited by many people who hope for consolation and help in personal matters.

Vienna 1st district Vienna Marian column in the monastery garden of the Schottenstift statue 1825 Pietro Nobile designed the column in the ancient design language of classicism . A slightly tapering pillar rises above a cube-shaped base, which is closed at the top by a leaf frieze. A statue of the Mother of God with the child stands on the pillar. The column is made of cast iron. The Madonna is now painted black again, just as it was when it was created.

According to a description from 1550 (see Bermann, p. 22), France is said to have counted 190 Black Madonnas at that time. Sailens lists 119 in his book (see list of literature below) (which is probably not a completely complete list). Well-known Black Madonnas can be found in:

  • The Black Madonna of Loreto has found particular distribution beyond Italy . The original was destroyed by fire in 1921. The present statue in the Basilica of the Holy House is therefore a copy of this original.
  • The Black Madonna by Oropa , on the other hand, is older . According to legend, the statue created by Luke is said to have been brought to Oropa by Bishop Eusebius von Vercelli in the 4th century.

  • Luxemburg , St. Johannes in Luxemburg-Stadtgrund: came to Luxemburg-Stadt from Marienthal Abbey in 1805, probably late 14th century, Cologne, Parler period. The 1.20 m high statue, carved from walnut, has an elegant, curvy, swaying body. Their features show a discreet smile.

Black Madonna of Czestochowa

The Black Madonna of Czestochowa on Mount Jasna Góra is a national shrine for the Polish people . The image is not only of religious significance, but has also stood for the Polish people's will for freedom for over a hundred years. It belongs to the so-called Luke pictures ; the first evidence of its existence, however, comes from 1382. In the Church of St. Mary in Gdansk there is a Black Madonna, similar to that in the Gate of Dawn in Vilnius .

The Nossa Senhora da Nazaré (Our Lady of Nazareth) is a small, almost 30 cm high statue of a black breastfeeding Madonna, legendary 4th century, its date varies between the 7th and 13th centuries. The construction of a new church dedicated to her in the Portuguese city of Nazaré named after her is known as early as the 14th century, which is said to have replaced a small chapel from the 12th century that previously protected it, which would indicate a pre-Moorish origin ( occupation 711 ) .

  • The Our Lady of Mt Philermos Rhodes dates back to the Byzantine room of the 11th or 12th century and is known as patroness of the Order of Malta worshiped.   • The image of the “Black Madonna of St. Thomas ”from Brno is one of the images of Mary supposedly painted by the Evangelist Luke. It is first mentioned in 1373. It was passed on from Charles IV in 1356 to his brother, Margrave Johann, who in turn gave it to the Augustinians.
