Herschwiesen is a district of the city of Boppard . The place is on the Hunsrück heights between the Rhine and Moselle . As a district, Herschwiesen also includes Windhausen .

geography

Herschwiesen is the oldest place and the center of the so-called Niederkirchspiel . The place is in the Vorderhunsrück on a ridge between the Moselle and Rhine. It is about 12 km to Boppard on the Rhine and around 7 km to Brodenbach on the Moselle. Neighboring towns are Windhausen, Hübingen, Oppenhausen , Kröpplingen and the town of Buchholz to the east .

history

The Herschwiesen church was first mentioned in a document in 1241, although a chapel is said to have existed in Herschwiesen as early as the 10th century. The current district of Windhausen was first mentioned in 1245.

An application for a new church to be built was submitted to the Archbishop of Trier in 1743. This application was approved and in 1745 the construction of the church began. The church and the associated church wall with parish barn, parsonage and parsonage have shaped the townscape since then.

Until it was incorporated into the new municipality of Boppard on December 31, 1975, Herschwiesen was an independent municipality.

The local council in Herschwiesen consists of five honorary council members, who were last elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the also honorary mayor as chairman. The local elections in 2019 brought three seats for the SPD and two for the CDU .

Club life

Herschwiesen has a pronounced club life. The largest association is the sociability association, founded in 1950, which organizes the traditional Pankratiuskirmes every year . Some members of the social club were also active in the club's own theater group until the theater group Die Däkta was formed in 1990 .

Another club from Herschwiesen is the recreational soccer team FC Berta , which holds the big raffle every year on fair Monday and the annual village festival in the parish garden.

On the initiative of some residents, the Pro-Obst Niederkirchspiel e. V. founded, which is dedicated to the care and maintenance of the extensive orchards.

To preserve and protect the church, the Friends of the Parish Church of St. Pankratius Herschwiesen was formed.

Pilgrimage chapel to the Black Mother of God Windhausen
  • Catholic parish church St. Pankratius (colloquially also: Dom des Vorderhunsrück ) - Baroque style parish church built between 1744 and 1746 by the Tyrolean master builder Johann Neurohr. In 2011 the church was completely renovated in the interior in a 15-month construction project.
  • Half-timbered houses - several restored half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries
  • Historical parish center - the elevated parish church of St. Pankratius with its rectory, utility building, rectory and rectory garden, which is surrounded by a large curtain wall, is characteristic of the location.
  • Orchard meadow belt - The place Herschwiesen is greened in a landscape hollow by several orchards (about 50 hectares).
  • Traumschleife Hasenkammer - a premium circular hiking trail starts at the fairground in Herschwiesen and leads once around the circular village, past the quarry and the hiking shelter to the Donnerloch.
  • Black Mother of God - in the district of Windhausen there is the pilgrimage church of the Black Mother of God at the entrance to the village.

  • Schöneck Palace - Also in the district of Windhausen is the Schöneck Palace, which was built towards the end of the 12th century by the Reich Ministry Konrad von Boppard as an imperial castle and was expanded into a palace in the 19th century.
