Rheinbay is the smallest of ten districts in the town of Boppard in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . Until it was incorporated into the new municipality of Boppard on December 31, 1975, Rheinbay was an independent municipality.

history

Rheinbay was first mentioned in a document in 1114 as Beie. In the Middle Ages, the Rhine Bay was part of the Nieder- Hirzenach Bailiwick .

In the course of secularization , Rheinbay was incorporated into Mairie Boppard in 1798 . After the Wars of Liberation , in 1816 it was initially assigned to the Prussian mayor's office in Boppard , but in 1817 it was reclassified to the mayor's office of St. Goar . As part of the regional reforms in Rhineland-Palatinate , Rheinbay came to the Verbandsgemeinde Boppard in 1970 , from which the new town of Boppard was formed in 1975.

In 1897 the neo-Romanesque hall church of St. Sebastian was built, which is a branch church of St. Bartholomäus in Hirzenach .

politics

The local advisory council in Rheinbay consists of five honorary council members, who were last elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the also honorary mayor as chairman. The local elections in 2019 brought four seats for the SPD and one seat for the Boppard Free Voting Group .

The mayor is Wilfried Zimmer (SPD). In the local elections on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office with 81.2% of the votes.
