Unterfrauenhaid ( Hungarian : Lók , Croatian : Svetica ) is a market town in the Oberpullendorf district in Burgenland in Austria with 646 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
The community is located in Central Burgenland, on the western bank of the Raidingbach , between Lackenbach and Raiding on the foothills of the Ödenburger Mountains .
Unterfrauenhaid is the only place in the community.
history
Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .
Later under the Romans, today's Unterfrauenhaid was then in the province of Pannonia .
Unterfrauenhaid has been a market town since 1578.
Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name locomotive to be used. The composer Franz Liszt was baptized in the village church .
After the end of the First World War, after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).
In 1971 Unterfrauenhaid was merged with Lackendorf and Raiding to form a large community, which was later dissolved.
The market community law of Unterfrauenhaid was renewed in 1990.
Population development
Culture and sights
- Parish and pilgrimage church Unterfrauenhaid : originated around 1200. The church of Unterfrauenhaid is historically one of the few Romanesque parish churches in Burgenland.
- Cemetery: in the middle of the 15th century, expansion and conversion to a fortified church with a defensive wall to protect citizens in the event of an enemy attack.
- Kreuzkapelle in the main street
- Wayside shrines: Niche pillars at the eastern exit of the village, Man of Sorrows at the church (1628), Peace Column in Feldgasse (1620)

Parish council
In addition to Mayor Friedrich Kreisits (SPÖ) and Deputy Mayor Ing.Thomas Niklos (ÖVP), the executive councilor Erich Fruhstuck (SPÖ) is also a member of the community board.

Mayor is Friedrich Kreisits (SPÖ), who in 2007 succeeded Erich Lämmermayer (SPÖ), who headed the community for 18 years. In the direct mayor election on October 1, 2017, he was confirmed in office with 56.42%. He was 1.89 percentage points above the result of his party. His competitor Thomas Niklos (ÖVP) achieved 43.58%.
The head of the municipal office is Otto Scheu.
