history

Unter-Pullendorf (top right) around 1880 (recording sheet of the state survey )

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg . Later under the Romans, today's places Frankenau and Unterpullendorf were then in the province of Pannonia .

In 2000 and 2001, the Landesmuseum Burgenland , together with the Vienna Institute for Archaeological Science (VIAS), carried out excavations in the "Zerrwald" vineyard of Unterpullendorf and explored a mining area from the Latène period there . The overburden found there was examined in two smaller pings (deepening through mining activities) for the purpose of dating, a large ping was dug to a depth of 6.5 m in order to reach the bottom of the shaft and thus the mining site.

The formerly independent places belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) like all of Burgenland until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest , the Hungarian place names Frankó or Alsópulya be used.

After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The places have belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).
